Perspective on Urgency

Tis the season to go shopping / Visa Visa Visa, MasterCard!

For some reason shorter days always equate to less time. I imagine physicists might have something interesting to say on the matter, but I don’t know any, so I figure I’ll give it a shot in their stead.

The holiday season is crazy for anyone in retail. Even though you’re not working extra hours, you feel the urgency of thirty percent jumps in foot traffic, planned sales quotas of anything from two hundred to four hundred percent. It’s nuts. But it doesn’t have to be. It’s easy to get caught up in timekeeping, but even with so much more going on, if we’re mindful, we can at least avoid going nuts.

For exmple, I finished writing this on November 15th, around six in the evening. But my site, thanks to WordPress, lets me schedule it to a more appropriate 9:02am this morning, November 17th. I’m actually on the walk to work right now. Simple things like this prevent my insanity.

What kinds of things can you do to achieve the same effects as you usually do, without the total nutball rush of the winter holidays? How can we decrease our pace without feeling the pressure of missing out?
