As part of my work, I deliver presentations about social media, online communication, and how connectivity can improve businesses.
To supplement that work, as well as help as many people as possible, I’ve begun putting together some longer-form study courses which I hope will inspire more learning by more people. These courses are as-is reading lists which I suggest you walk through in sequence, from beginning to end.
Connected Commerce 101 – Intro to Social Media. This reading list encompasses much of the basic groundwork needed to start understanding how internet culture has evolved to be more hospitable to businesses, and how your business can adapt to fit the new landscape.
Note: This course was originally published in 2011. Much of the content is still perfectly appropriate, but does not represent the current state of social media, much less social marketing. Tools have changed significantly, the public’s perception of what’s acceptable has changed with it – and marketers’ practices need to come up to speed. As such, it please read this more like a recent history of social media – rather than a working manual.
